Former Zellers employees’ rights are finally recognized in Québec!
Montréal, June 28, 2013 – United Food and Commercial Workers Canada (UFCW Canada) was pleased to see the impact of its targetfairness.ca campaign after the Quebec Labour Standards Commission recognized for the first time the specific nature of the transaction that left former Zellers employees in an impasse following the purchase of the Zellers Canadian banner by U.S. retailing giant Target. These workers will no longer be disadvantaged by the gap in Québec’s legislation and can now exercise their rights.
Zellers Workers deserve a good future at Target
We are the people who work at your neighbourhood Zellers, and some of us have worked in your store for over 30 years. We love our jobs, and we are proud of what we do. Together, we have the experience to make Target a place where Canadians prefer to shop.
So when we found out that Target is letting us all go, we were surprised, confused and hurt. Target has said that we can reapply for our jobs, but the company will not recognize our experience and the important things we have earned through many years of loyal service.
We believe that Target can do a lot better and we hope that you will join us in Asking Target for Fairness by sending a letter to the company’s CEO, sharing our story with your friends and followers, and Liking our Facebook page.
Together, we can make Target Canada’s next great retailer. Thank you for your support!
